What is coaching

Coaching is a partnership that is established between the client, person or company, and the coach, with the aim of moving him forward. It is a process of reflection and creativity, to encourage people to maximize their personal and professional potential and, for companies, to develop their teams or groups.

The coaching-pt (Coaching Portugal) intervention model in companies is based on complete professional coaching programs designed by stages that include diagnosis and a customized approach that integrates leaders, teams and groups.

In life coaching, looking at your life and realizing what you want to improve or what you want to change is everyone's decision. You can make your way through a coaching process, with a professional who will accompany you in your decision making and in discovering what you want for yourself.

In business coaching, company managers make the decision to invest in team development, investing in improving their performance.

Coaching can provide motivation, for example, in matters of deep and careful reflection on performance at both a personal and corporate level.

The coaching-pt team follows the definition of coaching from ICF - International Coaching Federation (www.coachingfederation.org), the largest coaching organisation in the world.

life coaching

Life coaching is a personal process that expands our levels of self-awareness and our capacity to take action. The person looking for a coach will work on their motivation levels to achieve goals and set up the action plan.

The partnership between the client and the coach guarantees confidentiality and is centered on the client's request to achieve the results he seeks. The processes have a variable duration depending on the topic presented and the contract established.

Usually, life coaching processes have between 5 and 10 sessions and their duration can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes, weekly or fortnightly. There is always the possibility of adjusting depending on the work being developed and the proposal agreed between the coach and the client.

Session zero is a first meeting between the client and the coach. This is the place to clarify all doubts and submit your request, without any obligation and free of charge.

Life coaching topics are very diverse. In response to the client's request, topics related to his personal life may arise, such as: organization, productivity, assertiveness, choice of personal or professional path, self-confidence, procrastination, life purpose, emotion management, conflict management, self-esteem, self-concept, beginning own business, among others.

A very recurring theme in life coaching processes is the person's career or professional activity. Hence, it is commonly called professional or career coaching to coaching processes that specifically focus on creating a space for reflection to clarify the professional moment that the person is experiencing, what it means and what is their vision for their life in the short, medium and long term. The goal is to define the next steps to bridge the gap between what is happening and what you would like to happen in your professional life.

business coaching

In business coaching, there are several working approaches: leadership coaching, team coaching and group coaching.

Leadership, teamwork and motivation skills are worked on, as well as the development of skills of group employees within the company.

Examples are greater self-knowledge, self-confidence, emotional intelligence and the leadership and management skills of leaders with their teams.

Coaching programs in companies aim at the feeling of accomplishment and appreciation of all employees, as well as increasing satisfaction and productivity in order to contribute to the increase of the company's results.

Coaching-pt (Coaching Portugal) develops both the different types of coaching separatelly and in integrated programs that involve leadership coaching, and team and group coaching

leadership coaching

Coaching, within companies, can arise and be useful at various stages of the career development of a leader or an employee who assumes different leadership positions, for example, when leading a team for the first time; when the responsibility for the number of people in their charge changes; when it integrates new areas of intervention; when you change geography and business culture; when leading multicultural or international teams; when it rises in the hierarchy; when, for a long time, it has remained in the same leadership position and needs a new look.

Leadership coaching is a space for individual reflection that aims to provide leaders with the ability to manage themselves and their teams in order to enhance a high level of personal and professional performance.

The most recurrent themes in leadership coaching processes are: self-confidence, attitude, emotion management, listening, conflict management, leadership style, communication, vision, strategy, motivation, empowerment, team autonomy, priorities and time management.

A partnership is established between the coach, the client and the company based on a three party agreement that ensures and respects the will of the client and the organization. The theme is defined together, ensuring the confidentiality of the content of the sessions. Executive coaching programs have a variable duration depending on the defined topic and are agreed in partnership with the entities involved. Sessions can last for 30, 45 or 60 minutes, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly.

team coaching

Team coaching is aimed at companies and organizations that have a plan for the development of their teams in order to promote the integration of human, social and economic factors.

It is vital for teamwork to rise to superior performance, the creation of a save space for reflection accompanied by certified professionals.

With defined rules and a confidentiality agreement, team coaching enables joint growth in order to achieve common goals that the company considers important for collective results.

The focus areas of team coaching processes are: communication, human relationships, organization, division of tasks, planning, motivation, conflict management.

The coaching-pt team develops continuous and time-phased coaching programs, which include diagnosis, goal setting and coaching sessions with leaders and their teams.

Team coaching programs are suitable for both small and large companies. It is possible to start a process through pilot projects that are extended to all teams, within the same company.

The duration of a coaching program for a team varies widely, ranging from 3 months to a year. Team coaching sessions have an average duration of 90 minutes and can be fortnightly or monthly. Between sessions, team members are challenged to experience, in the company's daily life, what was reflected and shared in the coaching sessions.

group coaching

Group coaching is a practice of reflection and action aimed at a group of people who bring common themes. The exchange of experiences and knowledge between those involved in this activity, mediated by a coach, provides human and social development among the participants.

In the business context, groups are made up of colleagues of the same professional level, for example, a group of project managers or a group of directors, among others.

The start of the group coaching program begins with the definition, by the company's managers, of the skills they want to see evolve in a group of people who perform the same type of function.

By providing moments of sharing between peers, the following benefits are achieved: feeling of belonging to a group, vision of the whole, networking, solidarity, mutual help, increased trust.

Group coaching programs typically range from three months to a year.

The duration of the group coaching sessions is, on average, 90 minutes and the frequency can be monthly or bimontlhy. The coaching work remains between sessions with group participants gathering experience for later sharing.
